By a cabinet decision dated 2 December 2024, the parliament approved the increase in the monthly benefit allowance paid to two categories of low income families. According to the National Minimum Wage of Workers (Amendment) Bill, gazetted by the Department of Government Printing on 3 June 2025, the national minimum monthly wage for all workers in any industry or service shall be LKR 27,000 (inclusive of the budgetary relief allowance), and the national minimum daily wage of a worker shall be LKR 1,080. Previously, the minimum monthly wage was LKR 17,500, and the minimum daily wage was LKR 700. According to the Department of Census and Statistics, the national poverty line was LKR 6,342 as of April 2025. Based on the above, the promise is considered "partially kept" until enacted.
